And yet, unhappy as he was with Dad for not killing the boys outright, I wish Davy had witnessed the incident. It may not have "put the fear of God in 'em," as Dolly hopefully supposed, but it surely did insert the fear of Jeremiah.
So Dad gave Dolly a ride home, talked briefly with her father, and returned to the school to lock up.
